WWE Royal Rumble 2021: 5 Potential finishes for Sasha Banks vs Carmella – New Champion crowned, The Boss gains a new sidekick?
Sasha Banks and Carmella are set to collide at The Royal Rumble with the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line. The Boss and The Untouchable One have been at odds since Carmella made her return to WWE TV back in 2020 and set her sights on Sasha Banks’ Women’s Championship.
Despite already facing off several times, Carmella hasn’t been able to find a way past The Boss, even with the help of Reginald, her Sommelier.
After Sasha Banks was able to defeat Reginald in a one-on-one match on SmackDown, Carmella was granted a match for the Women’s Championship at this weekend’s pay-per-view. It’s unclear as to whether or not Reginald will be allowed at ringside with Carmella for this match, but if he is then it’s likely that he will once again play a role in the outcome of the bout.
It will be quite the swerve if Reginald decides to help Sasha Banks rather than Carmella, especially after tapping to The Boss a few weeks ago.
The following article looks at five potential finishes for the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at tonight’s Royal Rumble event.
#5. Sasha Banks retains her SmackDown Women’s Championship at The Royal Rumble
Sasha Banks is easily considered to be of the most popular stars on SmackDown at present and has reigned her division since she was able to defeat former friend Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship back at Hell in a Cell.
The Boss has already shown that she knows how to defeat Carmella several times before and has even been able to overcome interference from Reginald at the same time. The most likely outcome at tonight’s Royal Rumble event would see Banks retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship once again, so that Carmella can then be handed another chance when she’s put into The Royal Rumble match.
Sasha Banks once had an issue when it came to defending her Championship, but she was able to overcome that problem when she defeated Bayley last year on SmackDown, and should be able to overcome the threat of Carmella this weekend.
Heading into WrestleMania, Sasha Banks seems the obvious choice to hold the title and then take on the winner of The Royal Rumble match, if the person in question decides to choose to challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Biggest event of the year.
#4. Carmella lifts her second SmackDown Women’s Championship at The Royal Rumble
Carmella has been handed another chance at the SmackDown Women’s Championship this weekend at The Royal Rumble despite already coming up short in a Women’s Championship match back at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs.
Reginald attempted to interfere and help Carmella as part of their match back in December, but The Boss was able to fight off both stars and retain her title.
It’s hard to see this match going any other way since The Boss granted Carmella the match, after she was able to defeat Reginald in a one-on-one match on SmackDown.
That being said, Carmella was able to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship the first time because of help from outside sources, the same way that James Ellsworth helped Carmella to win Money in the Bank.
Carmella has made a career out of cashing in on opportunities when her opponent is at their weakest and this weekend Carmella could find a way to react to a distraction from Reginald, in order to win her second SmackDown Women’s Championship at The Royal Rumble.
#3. Reginald helps Carmella to become SmackDown Women’s Champion at The Royal Rumble
Carmella will probably have Reginald in her corner at The Royal Rumble this weekend and this will give her a distinct advantage over The Boss.
Throughout her career, Carmella has always had a sidekick to rely on. From her time in NXT with Enzo Amore and Big Cass, to James Ellsworth helping her to win the Money in the Bank contract.
Carmella later moved on to an alliance with R-Truth which helped her to lift the 24/7 Championship, before Reginald became her latest sidekick. It appears that Carmella doesn’t know how to get the job done without someone in her corner and despite the former Women’s Champion already coming up short with Reginald’s interference, things could be different this weekend.
Reginald has faced Sasha Banks in a match and now knows her weaknesses, which could be a huge help to Carmella when she faces her in a one-on-one match herself.
Carmella isn’t as gifted in the ring as Banks and will rely on outside interference, which is why Reginald has to be at ringside for her tonight at The Royal Rumble.
#2. Sasha Banks retains her SmackDown Women’s Championship via disqualification at The Royal Rumble
Sasha Banks defends her Women’s Championship against Carmella as part of tonight’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, but this isn’t the first time the two women have faced off in recent months.
Ahead of their bout at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs back in December, Carmella and Sasha Banks faced off in a Women’s Championship match on SmackDown where The Boss was able to retain her Championship via disqualification.
As the Champion, Banks has a small advantage over her opponent at The Royal Rumble, which means that she could get herself disqualified or even lose by count-out and still retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship, even if the disqualification is intentional.
Back in December, Banks was disqualified when she refused to stop attacking her opponents when the referee used the five-count. If The Boss feels as though her title is slipping away from her once again this weekend, then it could be in her best interests for her to get herself disqualified and live to fight another day.
