Potential SummerSlam Main Event Featuring John Cena Vs. Roman Reigns Is The Talk Around WWE
People within WWE have been discussing a match between John Cena and Roman Reigns to headline SummerSlam in August, according to Dave Meltzer. Cena hasn’t appeared for WWE since he lost to The Fiend at WrestleMania 36 over a year ago and Andre Zarian of the Mat Men podcast has suggested that he could be in SummerSlam’s main event.
Meanwhile, Meltzer has addressed rumors over the PPV having a guest host and a main event worthy of a WrestleMania setup. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter insider, there’s talk over WWE discussing an appearance for Cena but for the July 16 episode of SmackDown in Houston but nothing is confirmed as yet.
He also acknowledged the rumor on Cena vs. Reigns at SummerSlam with claims that people in the company have been talking up the potential matchup, though that hasn’t been confirmed either.
Given the planned location, a blockbuster main event would make sense for WWE. Cena’s acting career has been the cause of his prolonged absence and it’s why he missed WrestleMania 37 last month. So we can’t be sure how things might work out there.
Who Are The Other Options?
If a deal can’t be reached with Cena, Brock Lesnar is an option. Paul Heyman teased a possible return in July for the Beast Incarnate this week, so there are a few attractive possibilities.
Meanwhile, the guest host is still unknown, with that aspect still a rumor as well.
