Kurt Angle Teases Return After Catching Wind Of John Cena Rumors
Kurt Angle has joked he could be tempted to return to wrestling on the back of rumors that John Cena is set to make a comeback sometime this year. It’s been suggested that Cena could be at SmackDown on July 16 when WWE kicks off its new touring schedule. He has also been rumored for a main event showdown at SummerSlam, with Roman Reigns touted as a possible opponent.
Angle wanted his retirement match to be against Cena at WrestleMania 36 last year but was instead treated to a match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
With all of the talk surrounding a potential Cena return, Angle took to Twitter to offer a reaction.
Cena and Angle have lots of history together, with the 16-time World Champion making his debut against the former Olympic star in 2002. Cena lost that match but impressed enough to get a handshake from The Undertaker backstage. Angle now rates him as the greatest of all time.
Could John Cena Really Return To WWE This Year?
The fans coming back could certainly prompt the superstar to make a comeback in 2021. While he has been focused on making movies over the last few years, Cena has kept saying he’d like to return to WWE.
He relayed pretty much the same to Den of Geek earlier this month, stressing he really wants to be back and appreciates all the love he gets from fans.
“I really, really want to get back to WWE,” he said. “I really want audiences to get back to WWE. Heck, I’m with everybody I think around the world saying I just want the world to get back to normal, but these are interesting times, and I have a lot of interesting opportunities at my feet, and I really do appreciate the WWE Universe understanding that after so many years.”
