5 Opponents for Roman Reigns at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021

Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been ruling the roster of Friday Night SmackDown ever since his return and subsequent heel turn last year. It’s been over 250 days since he won the Universal title at WWE Payback 2020 and no one has been able to dethrone him yet.

This past week at WrestleMania Backlash, Reigns successfully defended his title against Cesaro in a brutal match. WWE has now announced that their next pay-per-view will be Hell in a Cell, which is set to take place on June 20, 2021.

Let’s take a look at five WWE Superstars who could challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell next month. Comment down and let us know who would you like to see face him. Could The Tribal Chief step inside the “Hell in a Cell” once again?

#5 Roman Reigns vs. Jimmy Uso

The Hell in a Cell “I Quit” match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso for the Universal Championship last year was a memorable one. The two real-life cousins told an incredible story throughout the match that took the entire Tribal Chief persona of Reigns to a whole new level. Towards the end of the match, Reigns locked in the guillotine choke on Jimmy Uso and that forced Jey to say the words “I Quit” to save his brother.

Seven months later, Jey is the right-hand man of Roman Reigns. Jimmy has also made his return to SmackDown and his equation with The Tribal Chief is not good. The defiance from Jimmy to be a puppet of Reigns has once again sparked a fire in this family feud and we might see the Universal Champion teach him a lesson, just like he did to his brother.

At WWE Hell in a Cell, Roman Reigns could step inside the deadly structure once again to face Jimmy Uso and force him to “acknowledge” him. Jimmy could give a heroic performance in the match, only for him to succumb to The Head of the Table and lose. He could then join hands with Reigns, completing the proper heel turn from The Bloodline.

#4 Roman Reigns vs. Aleister Black

Roman Reigns has defeated the majority of the main-event stars of Friday Night SmackDown. Superstars like Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, and even Edge have failed to dethrone The Tribal Chief. However, a new challenger could probably emerge for Reigns in the coming weeks.

We are talking about former NXT Champion Aleister Black, whose return vignettes have started airing on SmackDown since the last month. WWE has changed up his gimmick, however, it’s not completely clear whether he will return as a face or a heel.

Black is one of the purest strikers on WWE’s current roster. He has impressed the WWE Universe during his time on NXT with his wrestling skills as well as character work. There were also many comparisons made between him and WWE legend The Undertaker. However, his main roster career hasn’t been that good so far.

If WWE plans to give him a major push as a face upon his return, they might just have him confront Roman Reigns in the coming weeks, setting up a clash between the two at WWE Hell in a Cell. However, the chances of this match happening are the least among all the other entries in this article.

#3 Roman Reigns vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

On the Road to WrestleMania 37, it looked as if WWE was planning a feud between Roman Reigns and Shinsuke Nakamura. The latter received quite a decent push but that didn’t last long and then Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan stepped up to face Reigns.

However, there is still some unfinished business between Nakamura and Reigns. The company could bring that angle back, leading to a match between the two at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021 next month.

Shinsuke Nakamura’s main roster career started with an absolute bang as he won the 2018 men’s Royal Rumble match and challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 34. However, he failed to win the title at The Show of Shows and turned heel. He has since won a number of titles on RAW and SmackDown but hasn’t really been the main event player that he once was.

A match against Roman Reigns at Hell in a Cell would be a great way for Nakamura to get himself back in the main event picture.

#2 Roman Reigns vs. Cesaro

This past Sunday at WrestleMania Backlash, Roman Reigns defended his Universal Championship against Cesaro in the main event of the pay-per-view. The fact that many fans were hoping to see The Swiss Cyborg dethrone Reigns reveals how big of a star he has become.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T even stated before the pay-per-view that he could see Cesaro winning the title from Roman Reigns.

“I don’t think it’s bad timing (for Cesaro to win the title). He (Reigns) could win it back a month from now. I can actually see Cesaro winning, the fans loving it, we could always pull the trigger and get Roman Reigns back in that position. But for Cesaro to have that moment, you know, WrestleMania Backlash moment, could be the best thing (for Cesaro). That’s the press, that’s news, that’s news around the world, that Cesaro wins the title over Roman Reigns. If Roman wins, it’s just another win, so I can definitely see something like that happening,” said Booker T.

WrestleMania Backlash saw both Cesaro and Roman Reigns take each other to the limit. However, the Universal Champion finally emerged victorious by making The Swiss Cyborg pass out. The latter did not tap out or get pinned by Roman Reigns, which could lead to the company continuing his feud against Reigns leading to a rematch between the two at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021.

#1 Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro

After Roman Reigns defeated Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash, Seth Rollins made his way out to the ring and stood face-to-face with his former Shield brother. However, he then proceeded to attack an already injured Cesaro and laid him out with a vicious beatdown.

Seth Rollins and The Swiss Cyborg have been feuding against each other for the last few months and even faced each other at WrestleMania 37, where the latter emerged victorious. After the events of WrestleMania Backlash, the two will likely clash once again.

However, WWE could make things more interesting by adding both of them to the Universal Championship picture and letting them face Roman Reigns in a triple threat match at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021.

There have been a few teases recently of issues between Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. WWE has enough time to build a storyline where Rollins gets on the nerves of The Tribal Chief, leading to a triple threat feud and match at next month’s pay-per-view
