Kevin Owens Hints At Hiatus Following Defeat To Sami Zayn

Following his defeat to longtime rival Sami Zayn at last week’s Hell In A Cell event, WWE Superstar Kevin Owens has hinted that he may be taking some off to recuperate.

Owens took to social media the morning after his loss to Zayn to thank his fans and tease a sabbatical.

I fought like hell. Now, I need a little break. I’ll be back soon,” Owens tweeted. “Thank you, guys.”

In case you missed it, Zayn avenged his WrestleMania defeat to Owens by getting his win back at Sunday’s Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.

Zayn and Owens have been feuding with each other for most of 2021. It seemed like their current feud would culminate at WrestleMania 37, but like many WWE feuds this year, it just kept going.

Kevin Owens had a brief main-event run earlier this year, which ended when he was unable to overcome the dastardly tactics of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Owens, a former Universal Champion himself, refused to condemn Reigns for his actions while confessing that he resorted to similar tactics to keep the title during his reign.

If I was mad at Roman Reigns for the way he handled things when he and I were competing for the title, I’d be a really huge hypocrite because I did all that stuff when I was the champion,” Owens explained on the most recent edition of Talking Smack on Peacock.

I had people help me, I had people fight my battles for me. I did a lot of underhanded s**t to a lot of people,” the former Universal Champion continued.

As you might recall, the bitter rivalry between Owens and Reigns culminated at this year’s Royal Rumble where Reigns resorted to some un-sportsmanlike tactics to defeat Owens. Owens also claimed that he’s taking the screwjobs in his stride for the time being because he’s able to go home to his family and decompress, but when WWE hits the road, his rivals may not be so lucky.

It’s fine, I totally get it. Guess what, I deserve every single thing that’s happened to me in the last year,” KO said on Talking Smack. ”I’ll take the beatings, I’ll take the frustration because ultimately the last year I got to spend it with my wife and my kids almost every day. But that’s about to end now because we’re going back on the road. That’s when that stuff is going to become a problem,” he added. “Because when that happens, I still get to go home and I see my wife and I see my kids right away and all that stuff disappears. But once I’m on the road, and I’m traveling, and I’m on airplanes, and I’m in cars, and I’m going to shows, and I’m away from my family, and the only thing that can make me feel better about not being with them is winning a title, carrying that title, being a representative of WWE and this stuff keeps happening to me, then we’re going to have a problem.”
