Drew McIntyre Says Money In The Bank 2021 May Be His “Last Chance”

Drew McIntyre managed to earn another golden championship opportunity on Monday Night Raw, and he knows not to take anything for granted.

McIntyre faced Riddle (replacing Randy Orton) and AJ Styles in a “last chance” triple threat match, the main event of last night’s show. The winner would get a spot in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match on July 18. The former WWE Champion pinned Riddle to earn his placement in the match. McIntyre, Ricochet, Big E, John Morrison and Riddle have all qualified so far.

Following his monumental victory, McIntyre made an appearance on RAW Talk (h/t Sportskeeda), where he emphasized the importance of winning the ladder match.

“This might be my last chance to reach the top of the mountain of any brand, and I have to win,” McIntyre explained. “It’s as simple as that. I have to win. It’s not recent (climb to the top), recent is whatever – that’s just part of the job. It’s all the work to reach the top, especially in the nature of the times we’ve been in and being a representative.”

McIntyre spent over a year as a main eventer and top babyface on Monday Night Raw. But he lost three straight WWE Championship matches to Bobby Lashley, and McIntyre can no longer challenge for the title as long as Lashley is the champion. As such, some are wondering if McIntyre’s main event run on Raw is slowly coming to an end, at least for a brief period of time.

McIntyre’s second WWE Championship reign ended at Elimination Chamber 2021, when The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract following an attack from Lashley. The Miz and John Morrison managed to win the briefcase off of Otis, who was victorious in last year’s men’s MITB match.

This Won’t Be Drew McIntyre’s Last Chance

It’s highly unlikely that McIntyre will win the Money in the Bank ladder match, since he’s already an established main event star. This is WWE’s opportunity to build up a new main eventer, and they shouldn’t waste it. If McIntyre doesn’t win the ladder match, there’s little reason for his fans to worry. He will surely get plenty of more major championship opportunities down the road.
