9 Times Wrestlers Changed Vince McMahon’s Mind
Vince McMahon is known to be stubborn. It’s pretty tough for anyone to change the boss’ mind and most don’t even try to because the consequences could be devastating for their careers.
At the same time, however, some top wrestlers obviously had more control over their character. Some even managed to convince McMahon to change his mind and not just once but multiple times over their careers. Many of them were very selfish acts in wrestling but a few were done for others too.
9Triple H Convinced Vince McMahon To Retain His Belt
The WrestleMania matchup between Triple H and Booker T had a great buildup. The Game played his role as a heel pretty well but in doing so, he even convinced Vince that Booker T doesn’t deserve to beat him at WrestleMania 19 for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Most people hated the fact that the wrong guy won in this rivalry. Over the years, Triple H has tried really hard to clean his reputation and has willingly put over many younger talents but many fans haven’t forgiven him for doing dirty to Booker in 2003.
8Brock Lesnar Loses To Make More Money
The Survivor Series 2016 main-event was a huge deal for WWE. Goldberg returned to the ring after 12 years of absence from WWE to face the very man he defeated the last time.
Originally, Vince McMahon wanted to bring Goldberg back for one night. McMahon wanted Goldberg to come and do a quick job for Brock Lesnar and go home. But Lesnar saw big money in this rivalry and convinced Vince to extended the feud for a few more months until WrestleMania 33.
7Daniel Bryan Refuses To Win Against Kofi Kingston
KofiMania was one of the best wrestling storylines in a very long time. After 11 years, Kofi Kingston finally managed to win the WWE Championship on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
But Kofi probably wouldn’t have achieved his dream if it hadn’t been for Daniel Bryan. He revealed in an interview that Vince didn’t even consider booking him in the WWE Title match at WrestleMania 35 but Bryan pushed for it as he wanted to drop the belt to him.
6John Cena Buries The Nexus
Nexus quickly became one of the hottest acts in wrestling right after their debut. They continued to target John Cena and WWE booked a 7-on-7 elimination tag match between Team WWE (Cena’s team) and The Nexus.
Everyone expected Nexus to win and even WWE had planned the finish like so. But then, Cena talked to Vince and convinced him to let him go over at SummerSlam. The Cenation Leader ended up making Wade Barrett submit in the main event to win the match for his team.
5The Shield Doesn’t Want To Lose So Soon
Another team that could’ve had their momentum destroyed because of a loss to John Cena was The Shield. WWE wanted The Shield to lose to Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus.
But Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Jon Moxley knew that they really needed this victory to continue dominating WWE. So they went to Vince’s office and didn’t leave until the Chairman of WWE gave in and agreed to book them as the victors.
4Curt Hawkins Refuses To Win A Match
Curt Hawkins had a well-known streak going on until 2019. Hawkins had a record of losing 269 matches continuously without scoring a single victory. One night WWE finally booked him to get a victory at a Main Event taping against Heath Slater, but he refused.
The streak meant a great deal to him and if WWE wanted to end it, Curt thought it’d be a wasted opportunity to do so at WWE Main Event. His streak finally ended when Hawkins won the Rag Tag Team Titles with Zack Ryder at WrestleMania 35’s pre-show.
3Randy Orton Passes On The Chance To Beat The Undertaker
The Undertaker was also willing to end his streak against Randy Orton in 2005. Orton was known as The Legend Killer at that time and it made sense why Vince wanted him to have this huge opportunity.
But Orton refused to win against Undertaker at the Shows of Shows because just like the WWE Universe, he was also a fan of The Streak and didn’t think he was the right man to beat a legend like The Deadman at WrestleMania.
2John Cena Refuses To Lose To Jake Swagger
Another man John Cena refused to do the job for was Jake Hager (Jack Swagger in WWE). When Jake was wrestling for WWE, he received a huge push and Vince thought he had great potential. Hager won the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 26 and even teased a cash-in on Cena the next night on Raw.
But as per Hager, Cena straight up refused to lose his title to him. So WWE booked him to defeat Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship on SmackDown instead.
1Shawn Michaels Doesn’t Want Another Title Reign
Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho had a very personal feud in 2008 that spanned many months. These two fought each other for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Mercy.
WWE offered The Heartbreak Kid one last World Championship reign but Michaels refused the offer. He convinced Vince to let him lose to Jericho and allow Y2J to continue his reign as a champion.
