Triple H Sounds Off On The Rock & John Cena WWE Return Rumors

It’s been a while since wrestling fans saw wrestler-turned-actors John Cena and The Rock in the WWE ring.

Cena last competed at WrestleMania 36, losing a “Firefly Fun House” cinematic match to Bray Wyatt. As for The Rock, his last WWE match took place against Erick Rowan, whom he defeated in just six seconds at WrestleMania 32 five years ago. Although he revealed in 2019 that he’s retired from professional wrestling, The Rock has expressed an interest in a match with his cousin, Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

So, could we see the two wrestling icons return to WWE programming in the very near future? WWE Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development Triple H hinted at it during an interview with the New York Post.”No matter how busy they are, I know that anytime there’s an opportunity where you would say to them, ‘Hey, you could enter the ring in WWE and do this,’ there’s a part of them that goes, ‘Ooh, that sounds like a lot of fun,'” Triple H said.

Cena hasn’t appeared on WWE television since WrestleMania 36. The Rock made an appearance on the Oct. 4, 2019 SmackDown on FOX premiere. He and Becky Lynch attacked King Corbin, who interrupted the latter during a promo.

The Rock and John Cena team up

It has been reported that Cena will go one-on-one with Reigns at SummerSlam, set for Aug. 21 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Presumably, a dream match between The Rock and Reigns would happen at a future WrestleMania event. WWE has been pushing Reigns as the face of the company ever since he returned and became a heel at SummerSlam 2020, and matches with Cena and The Rock would only elevate his stardom more.

Cena Should Be Back Before Long

WWE will return to touring and performing in front of crowds on July 16. The company is reportedly saving the “good stuff” for the live audiences. So it would make good sense to bring Cena and/or The Rock back to WWE programming sooner rather than later. We could very well see Cena in the coming weeks with SummerSlam just around the corner, and hopefully The Rock before long.
