Report] Backstage Note On Randy Orton’s Absence From Monday Night Raw
Randy Orton was notably absent from this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, and it’s unclear why at this time.
The 14-time World Champion was set to face AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre in a “Last Chance” triple threat match with the winner earning a spot in the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Riddle, who qualified last week, fought on Orton’s behalf. The match was won by McIntyre, who pinned Riddle to qualify. The latter won a Battle Royal earlier in the evening to earn a spot in the triple threat match that closed out this week’s show..
According to a report from PWInsider (h/t Ringside News), Orton wasn’t backstage for this week’s show. The report noted “there was no clear indication” as to where the Viper was.
Barring a change of plans or an unexpected surprise of some sort, Orton will not be competing in this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Big E, Riddle, McIntyre Ricochet and John Morrison (who defeated Orton last week to earn his spot) have all qualified so far. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will square off on this week’s episode of SmackDown to determine another one of the match entries.
Orton and Riddle had a singles match on the Apr. 19 edition of Raw, which the latter won via pinfall. The two have been working as a tag team for two months now, and Orton has since turned into a babyface again.
Hopefully It’s Not A Lengthy Absence
Orton is one of the most valuable superstars on the Raw roster. He carried the mid-card scene for several months, and now he’s flourishing in the tag team division. Money in the Bank (at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas) is less than three weeks away, so let’s hope that Orton is back ahead of time for the show’s buildup.
