5 WWE Superstars that deserve a world title shot in 2022

As great as WWE is at using established stars in the main event picture, it is also necessary to keep creating new stars. There are only so many occasions where you can rely on Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, or Seth Rollins to carry the ball.

Fortunately, both WWE SmackDown and RAW have loaded rosters with several exemplary athletes. All of whom could be elevated to the title picture in 2022. Luckily, a lot of them are in strong positions right now and will not seem like misfits in the WWE or Universal Championship picture.

Unless you have a competitive field with many contenders nipping at the heels of the champions, the audience may not be invested in the weekly product. This is why it is important to constantly keep creating new, engaging WWE characters.

As always, you’re welcome to share your valuable thoughts and insights in the comments. Feel free to agree or disagree with the names mentioned here.

#5 Xavier Woods is a WWE Superstar on the verge of greatness

Big E is the current WWE Champion, and Kofi Kingston had his moment under the sun as well. One has to believe that Xavier Woods, the other New Day member, deserves an opportunity at the title very soon. He’s the current King of the Ring, and usually, that’s the launchpad to bigger and better things (unless your name is Corbin).

The dark horse of The New Day has always been a fantastic talent, as gifted on the microphone as he is in the ring.

If Big E does remain the WWE Champion until WrestleMania, how cool would it be to have Big E vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Xavier Woods at the show? A New Day Triple Threat match could certainly be something fans get behind.

#4 Damian Priest is one of the most protected WWE stars at the moment

WWE does not always protect promising superstars on the main roster (read: Karrion Kross). But somehow, Damian Priest is one of the most protected stars in the company, who’s going from strength to strength as the current WWE United States Champion.

It’s only a matter of time before he is inserted into the world title picture. Honestly, do not be surprised if he ends up winning the Royal Rumble match this year.

#3 Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns is a feud that’s still not done

There’s no denying that Sami Zayn is one of the most entertaining WWE Superstars on the roster right now. Some may argue that he should have been a world champion long ago, just like his best friend, Kevin Owens.

There’s an untold story between him and Brock Lesnar that’s yet to be explored. Zayn is also owed a more competitive match against Roman Reigns after what transpired on WWE SmackDown a few weeks ago. Whoever wins at Day 1 has a pre-existing story with Zayn already!

#2 We still haven’t seen Jimmy Uso vs. The Tribal Chief yet

The signs are subtle on WWE SmackDown, but they do exist. As loyal as The Usos are to their Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, he’s been a bully to them.

We already saw how good the Jey Uso vs. Roman Reigns feud was. It may be time for Jimmy Uso to enter the WWE Universal Championship picture in 2022.

#1 Ricochet was the star of the WWE SmackDown gauntlet match

Remember the gauntlet match that aired on WWE SmackDown to determine who faces Shinsuke Nakamura next? Yes, Sami Zayn won the whole thing, but the biggest headline coming out of the contest was that Ricochet can go! Something we always knew, but we needed a reminder all the same. Ricochet vs. Roman Reigns could be a money match if that’s the plan for 2022.

This is a common disclaimer for all of the names that have been mentioned in this list. Just because they are in the title picture does not mean that they need to necessarily beat the current champion.
